Preheat oven to 200ºC, gas mark 6. Divide the pastry into four pieces, roll out each piece into a round and moisten the edges with water. Peel and core the
apples. Chop the
dates. Place one
apple on each round of pastry. Fill the centre of each
apple with some of the chopped
dates. For each one, bring up the pastry around the
apple to form a ball shape and press the pastry edges together to seal. Place
apple dumplings on an oiled tray and bake for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
These make a nutritious end to a meal but they are fairly substantial so start with a light first course for a healthy option or serve alone as a filling snack.
