Coconut, Cocos nucifera / Palmae
Postharvest Atmosphere Management
The optimal temperatures for their storage for 1 to 2 months are between 0 and 2 ºC.

The optimal level of relative moisture ranges between 89-95%. The freezing temperature is –0.9ºC.
Distribution
The environmental conditions for conservation are also suitable for the transport and distribution stages. Dried coconuts can be transported in boats for 3 weeks since they keep their good condition.
Postharvest Problems
The quality loss in coconuts after the harvesting is mainly due to bad and unsuitable harvesting. The losses may be caused by the softening of the fruit and the infectious diseases of the eyes. These can be avoided with careful classification, avoiding damages in the eyes and keeping the coconuts in suitable storage conditions.
