Brussels sprouts were first cultivated in Belgium, as its name indicates, from where they spread to the rest of the world. They are widely cultivated in different European, Asian and American countries.
Its culture began in the XVIIIth century. From Belgium they spreaded to the rest of Europe and the world. At present it is produced in the United Kingdom, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy and France among other countries, including the United States and China.
The production, export and import data of the FAO for the term " cabbages’ includes all the Brassicas oleraceas except for broccoli and cauliflower (headed cabbage, Chinese cabbage, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, Brussels sprouts and kohlrabi). The main producing countries are China, Russia, India and Korea.
